FMF Director Temba Nolutshungu took part in a recent conference about Expropriation without Compensation in South Africa.
In this video he discusses the issues surrounding Expropriation without Compensation (EWC)
He said the recent conference featured several speakers from around the world discusses the issue of Land Expropriation on a “non points-scoring, non-ideological basis”.
Nolutshungu discusses the issues in Venezuela, and how the proverbial chickens have come home to roost as the disastrous policies enacted by Hugo Chavez’s government destroy that nation’s economy.
Alternatives to Expropriation Without Compensation
With regards to Land Reform, Nolutshungu said that there are viable alternatives to Expropriation Without Compensation.
He said that these alternatives can be implemented without making any alterations to the constitution.
One option is for the state should give away parcels of land to poor families on a one plot-one family basis.
A free-hold, unencumbered title deed given to families will give them a degree of security. This will give them the drive to increase the value of the property by improving it.
