“Donald Trump tweets about Land Expropriation in South Africa” was the news South Africans woke up to on Thursday morning. US President Donald Trump has tweeted that he has asked his secretary of state to look into land expropriation and the killing of farmers in South Africa.
Trump’s tweet is likely to bring a large amount of attention from America to South Africa.
“I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers,” Trump tweeted.
His tweet follows a Fox News report on land expropriation in South Africa.
A video preview read: “‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ exclusive: South African president Cyril Ramaphosa has just begun the process of seizing land from his own citizens, without compensation, purely due to their skin color. That’s far more racist than anything Donald Trump has ever done, of course, but elites in America barely even care.”
This is not the first time Donald Trump has tweeted about South Africa. In 2015, when still a private citizen, he gained attention for calling South Africa “a total – and very dangerous – mess”.
Reactions to Donald Trump tweet about EWC
“Trump’s tweet an interesting little sociological experiment for SA. Let’s see how quickly his madness infects SA. If those who oppose EWC, as do I, had any sense they’d realise their cause is done no good being supported by a racist and pathological liar.” – Gareth van Onselen, IRR
Donald Trump tweets about Land Expropriation in South Africa when the discussion on EWC has reached fever pitch. Speaking on the Renegade Report podcast, Frans Cronje from the IRR has given a history of the ANC’s goal of destroying property rights in South Africa.
